FAQs

What is an ARC?

An ARC is an advance reader’s copy—also known as a galley, proof, or reading/review copy. It is an early copy of a book sent to reviewers, booksellers, educators, librarians, and other trade professionals to help spread the word about a book prior to its release.

Am I guaranteed to receive an ARC or finished copy if I’ve filled out the appropriate request forms?

Filling out the request forms does not guarantee you will receive a copy of the book(s) you’ve requested.

How do you select who receives a review copy?

The assigned marketers and publicists for each book will review all submitted requests. While each campaign has different goals and strategies, here are a few items we consider for all requests:

  • Activity and engagement on the reviewer’s given social media platform (Instagram, TikTok, Blog, etc). While we like to see high follower or subscriber numbers, we also value high engagement in the form of comments, likes, post frequency, related metrics, and creative and original ideas.
  • Reviewers from marginalized and underrepresented groups will be given equitable consideration.
  • Reviewers should be based in the U.S. or Canada. Due to contractual and territory restrictions, we cannot always accommodate international requests.

How will I know if I’ve been selected to receive a review copy and when will I receive the book?

Each season, marketers and publicists will review the requests for their titles and compile their influencer lists. The timing of our influencer strategies varies from book to book; you may hear from us very early or closer to the book’s publication date. Requesting a copy via the form does not guarantee you will receive one.

Can I also request digital review copies from NetGalley?

Not all FSG titles have physical galleys available to request but we encourage you to request digital review copies of our titles on NetGalley. Please be sure your member type is listed as “reviewer” and to include any pertinent identifying information and/or platform stats in your bio for quick reference. Our NetGalley strategies vary book to book and multiple members of our team review our NetGalley requests, so if your request is denied there you may still hear from the marketer directly about receiving a copy.

Will I be compensated for my review?

No, FSG does not provide compensation in exchange for reviews.

Are there any specific guidelines influencers should follow when posting?

We ask that when influencers receive any combination of free books, promotional items, etc. that you abide by all disclosure laws and regulations.

We ask that you make an effort to repost or share your reviews/posts on social media and tag @fsgbooks so that we can see/share your creations!
