A (very brief) History of Living Forever

Micro Writing Contest

What’s the shortest way to live forever? Achieve immortality through a micro writing contest! Jake Wolff’s debut The History of Living Forever (6.11.19) drops the reader right into a grand literary adventure—in which a web of scientists, alchemists, doctors, hucksters, a high school chemistry teacher and his student are connected across centuries through the search for an elixir of life and a tendency toward self-experimentation. And what are writers if not self-experimenters in search of immortality?

PROMPT: Write a piece of micro-fiction (up to 250 words) about this painting, which figures in the novel. Don’t feel the need to do research or connect it to Jake’s book. Writers, like alchemists, transform the magic of inspiration through the tools of their science and craft. This is your chance to make your own elixir!

HOW TO ENTER: Email your submissions to live4evercontest@gmail.com, the contest closes at 11:59pm ET on 6/2/19. Entries will be judged by Jake Wolff and Samantha Hunt (author of The Dark Dark).

PRIZES: The Grand Prize is publication in FSG’s Work in Progress including custom cover art for your micro-piece created by our award-winning design team and a brand-new, limited edition FSG tote bag filled with some of our favorite FSG debuts! Second prize winners will also be published in Work in Progress and will receive the tote filled with books, and honorable mentions selected by author Jake Wolff will be published on the site and receive a copy of The History of Living Forever and The Dark Dark.
